Isn't it so annoying when we are sitting peacefully and out of nowhere, mosquitoes come and start buzzing in our ears? They are definitely the mood spoilers. But have you ever thought why do they do it?
This is Now You Know and let's find out in this video why do mosquitoes buzz close to our ears.
This is definitely true that the attack of mosquitoes doesn't let us sit or sleep in peace. Nobody likes a mosquito bite or their buzzing sound. But honestly, mosquitoes are quite the dangerous creatures on the planet as they become the reason for many deaths in the world every year in the form of dengue or malaria.
When they come near our ear and buzz that is simply because of their wings. When mosquitoes are flying above our head and looking for a place to sit and suck the blood, we hear them more clearly because they flap their wings loudly.
Though, both male and female mosquitoes fly and flap their wings and make the buzz sound but what we hear is only that of female mosquitoes. Male mosquitoes don't suck the human blood and hence don't come near us, so we don't really hear their sound. The female sucks the human blood that is why keeps hovering around our ears.
During World War II, a scientist named Louis M. Roth concluded in his research on yellow fever mosquitoes that this buzzing sound is actually very important for the mating of these creatures. When the female mosquito makes the loud buzz sound, the male counterpart gets attracted towards her for mating. On the other hand, they don't go near the ones that are quiet and resting.
So, next time the mosquitoes buzz in your ears, you would know what's happening.
