People are different. And what makes them different from each other is the place we, the language you speak, the food you eat and way you look.
The way we look tells much more about us. Admit it even you can differentiate between a person from Asia, Africa or Europe just by their skin color.
This is Now You Know and in today's video we will tell you the science behind the color of your skin and what causes it?
Our skin tells an amazing story of human adaptability. Reliving that how biology has affected us since the past. The color of your skin centers down to melanin.
Melanin is a pigment that gives the skin and hair its color. This comes from the skin cells called the Melanocytes.
Infact, when the skin is exposed to the sun for a long period of time, the UV light damages the DNA of the skin cells thus the skin starts to burn. And if that damage is sever it can lead to melanoma which is a deadly cancer that forms into skins Melanocytes.
The amount of Melanin in your skin tells weather you will be more or less protected from the sun.
When your skin is exposed to UV rays that boosts up unique light sensitive receptors called rhodopsin, It then increases the intensity of melanin to save cells from the potential damage.
As a result people who live near the sun saturated year have higher level of Melanin running all over their skin giving it a darker tone which helps them from Melanoma.
And the person who stayed north had lower melanin productivity. Because the UV rays of the sun were less harmful in those regions.
Today the earth is full of vast pallets of skin colors. And this varies from region to region and people to people.
